my getaway mobile

If I could afford to splurge on an airstream I'd love to have this limited edition by DWR to get in some quality "Char Time." I'd also hire a driver to drive me somewhere in style and comfort. I'm sure the whole family would love to spend time in it, too!

dwell studio @ target

I am flipping out about the lower-priced dwell line at Target. I checked it out today (I gave in and got 2 plush blankets for the girls) and it makes me sick to think of the time and money we spent to put together a modern "dwell" baby room! After our second (and last) baby they come out with it at our local Target! We had gotten some original dwell accent pieces for Aspen's room, but I'd grab these furniture pieces if I was still decorating her room.

aspen sucks

Aspen has been soothing herself to sleep with her thumb lately. She refuses the binky just like Fallon did. Anyway, it's cute for now. Hopefully it won't last.

sledding at mt. charleston

It was a beautiful day, so we decided to go sledding at Mt. Charleston last minute this morning (only a 35 minute drive). It was Fallon's first time to play in the snow - which she was more interested in doing than sledding. She had a blast. Jonathan and I realized how out of shape we were when we found ourselves lacking umph in the higher altitude. Maybe next time we'll hit the slopes.

oxo pop containers

I am ecstatic about these OXO Pop Containers. Since our kitchen storage is lacking, the square design maximizes cabinet space. It'll be nice to see all our cereal, pasta, and kids snacks and to know when it's time to replenish. It's nice enough to stack on the counter. I know all you organization freaks will be all over this - if not already.

easy chopsticks for kids

Fallon has been craving Japanese food more than I have been and she is now getting into sushi. She is almost able to hold the chopsticks without any rubber bands or contraptions, but it's a long time before her sushi gets into the mouth. I found this fun chopstick cheater to help use her use chopsticks until she learns.

plain zane onesies are here!

New ad for Plain Zane onesies - not for the easily offended. Aspen sporting hot seller for nursing babies. More sayings available.

barneys new york in las vegas

The Palazzo opened last week next to the Venetian. It's just as beautiful as the LA Barney's (but it does not have a Barney's Greengrass Restaurant). They have the coolest animal art fixtures: Fallon's favorite is the denim giraffe - which she requested to put in our house. My favorite is the wire hanger elephant. Barney's may be the only store that I would willfully go bankrupt. It's the next best thing to heaven, but at the same time the devil makes me go there. The best part is that it is open "normal" Las Vegas hours: until 11pm and midnight on weekends!

kylee and michaela's first time over

The Bedfords and the Mannis came over today - mainly for the guys to watch the games. We were supposed to head out to M&M World, but the girls had a blast playing at the house. It was princess power x 3!

fallon & beloved izzy

We had dinner with the Gunsons at Islands. Fallon and Izzy got to finally see each other after a month! It had been too long, but Izzy was more interested in her ipod and Fallon's Cinderella doll.

disney princess on ice

I wanted to do a fun girly thing with Fallon so I took her with her school friends: Kylee, Michaela, Jaden and Kayla to see the show. It was so fun - even for me. The moms sat behind the girls and enjoyed watching their excitement. Fallon's favorite parts were Snow White and when Cinderella finally came out (fyi: my favorite was Little Mermaid).

modern wingback chair

We needed some cozy chairs in our great room. I love these modern wingbacks from West Elm so we brought 2 home today. They are chocolate which is our main color scheme and most importantly, it's kid-friendly.

MacBook Air

The World's Thinnest Notebook. It's ultrathin, ultraportable.

I have been a loyal Mac user since 1989, especially since they try to be environmentally conscious. I cannot believe how far the Mac has come. I should have saved all my computers since then (currently on my 5th Mac). It's not time to update, but I look forward to the version around 2009! If you are currently in need of a new Mac, I'm jealous. Pre-order one now.

aspen: 4 month update

Aspen is already 4 months! She is right on track with laughing, smiling, sticking her tongue out, drooling, somewhat rolling, talking, touching, grasping with 2 hands, pulling up, kicking and recognizing. Did I mention that she looks like Jonathan? We don't know her weight (she is as heavy as our shih tzu, Poncho!), but she is 23 inches now and seems the same size/weight as Fallon at this age. On Monday night, she nursed for 45 minutes then went down in her crib from 10pm-6am! Miracle...the beginning of longer nights of sleep?

I've been enjoying time off from business to bond with her and Fallon during the Holidays (I missed Fallon since she's been in school all day). I started to pack up Aspen's 0-3 clothes. It makes me sad to think she will never fit into them again and I will never see these clothes again - unless it's on a friend's baby girl!

tis the season to be...sick:(

My favorite remedies for the cold and flu season:
1. Emergen-C: My all-time favorite. We take it on a daily basis and Fallon loves it.
2. Airborne: You MUST take at the very first sign of illness and be diligent.
3. Honey - a teaspoon to soothe and coat the throat.
4. Elderberry Zinc cough drops by Zand (also available at Whole Foods).
5. The Neti Pot: An oldie, but goodie. You may have seen "nasal irrigation" on Oprah from Dr. Oz. It's true, the Neti Pot is hitting the cold scene -- big. Use it every other day to ward off any allergies, sinus headaches, flu or colds. It's sort of a gross maneuver, but it beats being sick! Basically, you pour saline water in one nostril and it drains out the other. You do both sides - watch it on You Tube. You can order one online or pick one up at Whole Foods.

what are you cheering about?

I wonder if I can still return these outfits?

eco-friendly shoes

I have been trying to be a better consumer in all areas including some clothing by buying fair trade, sustainable materials and seeking out items that can help reduce my carbon footprint. I came across these cool shoes by Melissa - recyclable, sustainable and architectural. They are Brazil's hottest export. I thought havaianas were it for me, but these are so cute! Melissa Shoes was founded on the premise of sustainability. Even better, the socially responsible company employs sustainable practices and pays employees above-average wages and benefits. Unlike Crocs, the shoes are made from recycled materials — even last year's leftover shoes. Love that! They recycle 99.9 percent of waste and water used in production. The company has produced 50 million pairs of shoes in the last 25 years. Each pair is crafted from technologically-engineered injected thermoplastic that easily molds to feet for the most comfortable fit around. Plus, they're totally hypoallergenic and odorless.

Melissa has partnered with some of the most forward-thinking designers and architects to create fresh and innovative boots, flats, wedges and heels. From celebrated architect Zaha Hadid (1st woman laureate of the Pritzker Prize for Architecture) to London's gender-bending punk fashion designer Judy Blame (Louis Vuitton and Commes des Garcon) and Karim Rashid. Soon...a design collaboration with the Queen of London punk, Vivienne Westwood.

The website is not in English, but you can buy Melissa Shoes at one of my favorite online retailers @ Revolve Clothing or on Zappos.com which is currently sold out.

jewelry tree

I have A LOT of organizing and decorating still to do since we moved in. I started with my jewelry because I have a ton. My most used pieces are usually sitting on the counter rather than in a jewlery box, so I found this cool jewelry tree at Urban Outfitters to help organize and decorate.

holiday recap

Fran and Mateo arrived on Thursday night. It was their first time to meet Aspen. She is in her happy, smiley stage so it was a good meeting. Fallon woke up Friday morning to a very happy cousin waiting to play with her. They were in entertainment heaven. We took them ice skating on Saturday. Fran was also a huge help with Aspen while I ran last minute errands. I think she needs to have another baby.

Christmas Eve... We kept the kids up late on Sunday to await Lola (Mom) and Jenn's arrival from LA. Dad decided to surprise us (Jonathan & Fallon) and show up from Ohio! On Monday morning, Jonathan and I went to Ashley & Brent's Annual Tacky Sweater Xmas Eve Brunch. We had a (rare) family photo session in the house and Dad insisted that we partake in the Paris Buffet for Christmas Eve - courtesy of his "Diamond status." It was nice not to have to cook and clean. The kids love crab so much, it was Dad's special treat for them.

Christmas morning... Mateo and Fallon discovered that Santa ate his cookies and noticed that Santa left a trail of crumbs and candy canes all over the floor. We rushed the presents so Mateo and Fran could catch their flight back to Ohio :( Fallon's gift from Santa was her playhouse in which she yelled out of the window, looking up to the sky, "Thank you for my playhouse Santa!" After all the commotion, we made it to noon mass. Fallon touched baby Jesus at the altar, but was disappointed it was not a "real" baby Jesus.

Our cousins, the Villanuevas, came over and we finished opening our presents, which overwhelmed Fallon. I was so happy my whole family made it this year and that my parents were able to spend some time with Aspen before they migrate off to the Philippines for 6 months. We missed Jonathan's family, but hopefully they can meet Aspen very soon. It was hectic, but isn't always somehow?

happy 2008!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a very happy and safe celebration. We stayed in Las Vegas, but we did not venture out to the Strip. We stayed at home and had a few friends over. Fallon hung out late with us, but got tucked in before the New Year. At midnight, we went to our sky deck and watched the fireworks on the Strip. It seemed all our other neighbors did the same as well. Aspen was awake so we took her outside. Tony Abou-Ganim helped us ring in the new year with some of his delicious cocktails. Not only do we get a signature cocktail, but we get the history and explanation of how to! It's always nice to have a famous mixologist around for parties. Thanks Tony! I wish everyone a wonderful and eventful 2008. We also hope to see many of you this year, especially with our new little one to introduce to everyone. Click photo to see larger.
